Dominica

My graduate fieldwork centered on the dynamic interaction between faith and culture among the indigenous Kalinago of Dominica. I delved into how the Catholic Church could authentically integrate into local cultures, customs, and contexts, emphasizing the crucial role of religious authorities in fostering just societies where marginalized voices are empowered. By immersing myself in the community through participatory observation, focus groups, and interviews, and partnering closely with the Ministry of Kalinago Affairs, I gathered rich, nuanced insights. I then combined these findings with an in-depth literature review of historical data and theological theory to propose innovative, inclusive strategies for the Diocese of Roseau, highlighting the power of diverse perspectives in crafting holistic, impactful solutions. Upon completion of this research, I was invited to present my findings at the Inculturation and Indigenization: Becoming Who We Are Caribbean Theology Today Conference in St. Lucia to prominent social activists and theologians
