Uganda

As an undergrad, I snagged a grant from Emory’s Institute of Developing Nations and The Carter Center to dive into the world of international humanitarian response, researching the plight of Congolese asylum seekers escaping violence in the eastern Democratic Republic of Congo.

Volunteering with the Uganda Red Cross at a bustling refugee transit center for 8,000 people, I rolled up my sleeves and dove into supply management, construction, and data collection. I took on logistics planning, joined multi-organizational meetings, and tackled obstacles with the team to improve services for those in crisis. This hands-on experience sharpened my strategic thinking and operations skills while deepening my commitment to impactful teamwork. Upon completion, I was honored to present my findings to President Jimmy Carter and other executives at The Carter Center.
